Aubrey Drake Graham was born on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Ontario, to parents Sandi Graham (née Sher), an educator, and Dennis Graham, a drummer who worked with Jerry Lee Lewis. On his father’s side, he is related to American musicians Larry Graham and Teenie Hodges. Drake’s father is an African-American from Memphis, TN, and Drake’s mother is a white Jewish Canadian. His parents divorced when he was five years old, and he was raised by his mother in two Toronto neighborhoods.

Aubrey Graham was born into to a mixed-ethnic background and his mother raised him across the border in Canada.


Aubrey was an excellent student but always had a desire to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. When he would visit his musically gifted father, Aubrey was inspired to become a musician himself. His dad eventually was jailed and his parents divorced. These experiences helped shape Aubrey into the man he became.

Aubrey’s mother Sandi allowed her son to take acting lessons and eventually he was signed to a talent agency from a friend’s parent. A big break in his early career was landing the role of Jimmy Brooks on the popular Canadian TV Show Degrassi; The Next Generation.

Drake used the money he made from Degrassi to invest in his music career. He shot a music video with Trey Songz that was played on B.E.T. and got the attention of Jas Prince. He then contacted Aubrey on MySpace.

In 2007, Jas Prince flew Aubrey to Houston to meet Lil Wayne. He wasn’t feeling his freestyles until a car ride into the studio.

Aubrey spit a verse that surprised and impressed Lil Wayne. He was signed immediately to Young Money Records and Drake was born.

After dropping his So Far Gone mixtape, the success of the single Best I Ever Had propelled Drake to another level of celebrity. He began a high profile relationship with Rihanna and world tour with Jay Z.


Drake has dropped several successful follow up albums and is now one of the most recognizable brands in entertainment & music.
