Merrick Garland was just nominated by President Obama to the U.S. Supreme Court. By most accounts he is considered a moderate but somewhat progressive.
He is a 19 year veteran of the D.C. Circuit. He was the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. At 63, he is the oldest judge nominated for the Supreme Court since a Richard Nixon nominee.
This nominate appears to be a safe play by the President to get confirmation from the Republican Senate that was vowed to block any selection.
Garland is a graduate of Harvard Law School. He is married with 2 daughters.
